Discover more about Kohlmaisbahn

The Kohlmaisbahn is more than just a lift; it's a portal to the alpine adventures of Saalbach-Hinterglemm. Situated in the center of Saalbach, the valley station provides easy access to the Kohlmaiskopf mountain, reaching an altitude of 1,794 meters. The lift operates from late May to mid-October, offering panoramic views and access to a range of attractions. Originally, the Saalbach ski lift company was founded in 1945, and the first ski lift, a T-bar, opened on the southern slope of Kohlmaiskopf in 1946. It was the longest lift in Austria at the time. The original Kohlmaisbahn played a significant role in transforming Saalbach-Hinterglemm from a poor farming village into a major tourist destination. The current gondola lift replaced the older models in 2018. In the summer, the Kohlmais area transforms into a playground for hikers and bikers. Montelino's Adventure Path, a deer feeding area, and a water playground offer entertainment for families. Bikers can enjoy the Monti-Line and Panorama-Line, which are beginner-friendly bike trails. More experienced riders can explore the Wurzel-Trail, which connects to the Bikepark Leogang. In winter, the Kohlmaisbahn provides access to ski slopes suitable for both beginners and intermediate skiers. The lift is part of the Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn, one of the largest ski resorts in Austria, offering access to 270 km of slopes and numerous mountain huts.
