Sky Space, officially titled "Blue Pearl – Skyspace," is a captivating art installation created by James Turrell, celebrated for his work with light and space. Located on the Mönchsberg, it's an integral part of Salzburg's Walk of Modern Art. The deliberate placement near the Museum der Moderne encourages reflection on perception and reality.The structure, an elliptical cylinder measuring 9.20 x 7.20 x 8.36 meters, is built from the same conglomerate rock as the Mönchsberg, blending seamlessly with its environment. Its open roof frames the sky, turning it into a dynamic canvas of light and color. Inside, the minimalist space with seating along the walls invites visitors to sit and observe.The experience is particularly captivating at dawn and dusk when the changing sunlight paints the sky with vibrant colors. Concealed fluorescent lamps subtly shift the color of the artificial light, creating a trompe-l'oeil effect that blurs the boundaries between natural and artificial light.
