    From the Salzburg Altstadt (Old Town), the fortress is approximately a 15-20 minute walk uphill. Follow the signs from Kapitelplatz, leading you through Kapitelgasse and Festungsgasse to the funicular valley station. Alternatively, continue along the footpath to the fortress entrance. Note that the footpath is partially steep.

    From Salzburg Hauptbahnhof (main train station), take trolleybus lines 1, 3, 5, 6, or 25 to the Rathaus or Ferdinand-Hanusch-Platz stop. From there, walk through Getreidegasse, Alter Markt, Residenzplatz, Domplatz and Kapitelplatz to Festungsgasse (approximately 5 minutes). Then take the FestungsBahn or walk up to Fortress Hohensalzburg. A single bus fare is around €1-2. A taxi from the main train station will cost approximately €9-12.

    The FestungsBahn funicular provides access to the fortress from Festungsgasse 4. The funicular runs approximately every 10 minutes. A round trip funicular ticket, including fortress admission (basic ticket), costs €14.50 for adults and €5.90 for children (6-14 years). A single ride after the fortress closes costs €6.00 for adults and €2.30 for children. Tickets can be purchased online or at the valley station.
