Overview
Semmering Hirschenkogel, rising to 1,340 meters, is a popular destination on the border between Lower Austria and Styria. Historically, the Semmering region gained prominence in the 19th century with the construction of the Semmering Railway, now a UNESCO World Heritage site, transforming the area into a favored summer retreat for Vienna's elite. Today, Semmering Hirschenkogel offers a diverse range of activities. In winter, it features well-groomed slopes for skiing and snowboarding, a 3-kilometer toboggan run (the longest in eastern Austria), and night skiing on illuminated slopes. Summer brings hiking and biking trails, a bike park with downhill trails, a forest ropes course, and the Millennium Jump, a free-fall experience from the Millennium Observatory. The Millennium Observatory provides panoramic views of the region. Families can enjoy the Hirschi playground. The Semmering region also boasts a rich cultural heritage. The nearby town of Semmering features historic buildings like the Grandhotel Panhans. Throughout the year, Semmering hosts cultural events, including concerts and festivals.
