Discover more about Vöslauer Thermalbad

Vöslauer Thermalbad, located in the charming town of Bad Vöslau, offers a serene escape into a world of relaxation and wellness. Just a short distance from Vienna, this historic thermal bath has been a beloved destination for centuries, drawing visitors seeking the therapeutic benefits of its natural mineral waters. The history of Vöslauer Thermalbad dates back to Roman times when the springs were first discovered and utilized for their healing properties. The first official mention of the springs was in 1136. In 1822, Moritz von Fries built a pool near the spring, opening the Fries'sche Badeanstalt, which marked the origin of the thermal bath. Three years later, Dr. Malfatti von Monteregio, the personal physician of Ludwig van Beethoven, analyzed the spring water and confirmed its healing properties, leading to the first official enclosure of the Vöslau spring. The popularity of the thermal bath grew significantly with the arrival of the Südbahn railway in the second half of the 19th century, making it easily accessible for visitors from Vienna. In 1873, the thermal bath was officially opened, featuring separate bathing times for men and women, with specific colored bathing suits required. It was also one of the first bathing facilities in Austria to offer swimming lessons for women. In 1926, architects Peter Paul Brang and Wilhelm Eduart Luksch designed the outdoor pool that still stands today, adorned with sculptures and murals. The thermal bath complex spans a vast 45,000 square meter park, featuring four unique pools, rocky landscapes, and pine forests. The pure mineral water, sourced directly from the Vöslauer spring at a depth of 660 meters, is the heart of the spa experience. The "Schwedendusche" (Swedish shower) and the "Grüne Becken" (Green Pool) are fed directly by the thermal spring water. The sculptures were created by Carl Langer and Eugen Roth, while the mural in the portico is attributed to Max Roth and Hans Lukesch. Visitors can relax in the various pools, including the historic Green Pool, which is filled with fresh, cold mineral water. The complex also includes a sports pool, a beach volleyball court, and a mini-golf course, providing options for both relaxation and recreation. The Marienpark, located within the thermal spa area, offers a tranquil space for relaxation and contemplation.
