From the train station, walk along Viale Stazione into the city center, then follow the signs to Piazza del Duomo. The cloister is adjacent to the Bressanone Cathedral.

    Bressanone is well-served by local buses. From the Bressanone/Varna bus station, take a local bus to Piazza Duomo. Several bus lines connect the station to the city center. A single ticket within Bressanone costs approximately €1.

  • Driving

    If driving, take the A22 Autostrada del Brennero and exit at Bressanone/Brixen. Follow signs to the city center and Piazza del Duomo. Parking is available at Piazza del Teatro, a paid parking area near the Piazza Duomo. Parking costs vary, but expect to pay around €1-2 per hour. Free parking is available at Millan Parking for up to two hours and Valle d'Isarco Parking without time limits, but these are slightly outside the city center.

Constructed in the pre-Romanesque era, the cloister has evolved through Romanesque and Gothic reconstructions, most notably in the 12th and 14th centuries. The original Romanesque structure is still visible through its round arches and double columns.The cloister served as a covered passage connecting the cathedral complex's most important buildings, including the Cathedral, Bishop's residence, chapter house, school, and baptistery. In the Middle Ages, it became a burial site, particularly for the cathedral clergy, with gravestones now displayed on the walls.The cloister is renowned for its stunning frescoes, most of which date back to the 15th century. These frescoes do not follow a single thematic cycle but depict scenes from the life of Jesus, various saints, and donors. The frescoes served to educate those who couldn't read. Not all sections are painted; the unpainted area was once used by students and merchants. The cloister's garden was once a place of meditation for the religious order and is now open to the public.
