Discover more about Hoisn Haus

Hoisn Haus, located in Molln, Upper Austria, is a captivating museum that offers visitors a glimpse into the region's rich history of Jew's harp (Maultrommel) making. The building itself was once a significant forge for these instruments, and has been lovingly restored by the "Friends of the Hoisn House" association. First mentioned in 1615, the house has been associated with Jew's harp makers since 1791. Master blacksmith Gottlieb Kradauer introduced the master mark “GK” for the Hoisn forge, which was adopted by subsequent owners with the permission of the guild. The Hoisn Haus remained inhabited until 2000. In 2004, an association was founded to preserve the dilapidated forge. Visitors can explore the herb garden and relax in the old orchard. Inside, exhibits showcase traditional crafts, local history, and the unique lifestyle of the Molln community. The displays are designed to be both engaging and educational, providing a deeper understanding of the region's heritage. The production of the Molln Jew's harp was recognized as intangible cultural heritage in Austria in 2014.
