    Public Transport

    From Vienna, take the S-Bahn S3 to Bahnhof Mödling. Transfer to bus 262 towards Gießhübl and get off at Maria Enzersdorf Siedlungsstraße. From there, it's a short walk to the castle following the signs. A single train ticket from Vienna to Brunn-Maria Enzersdorf costs approximately €3-5. A bus ticket is around €2-3. Total travel time is approximately 1 hour.

    Reach the castle via the A21 (Außenringautobahn). If coming from Linz, take the Gießhübl exit and follow signs to Burg Liechtenstein. From Vienna, take the Hinterbrühl exit towards Maria Enzersdorf/Mödling. A parking lot is available for visitors. Parking is free. From the parking lot, it is a 10-minute walk to the castle entrance.

    Liechtenstein Castle, situated in Maria Enzersdorf on the edge of the Vienna Woods, is the ancestral castle of the Princely House of Liechtenstein. Constructed around 1130 by Hugo of Liechtenstein, the castle stands as Austria's only ancestral castle of a ruling dynasty. The name 'Liechtenstein' is derived from the light-colored limestone used in its construction.Over the centuries, the castle has been rebuilt and expanded, incorporating Romanesque and Historicist architectural styles. It was owned by the Liechtenstein family until 1295, later passing through various noble families before Prince Johann Josef I bought it back in 1807. The castle faced destruction during the Ottoman sieges in 1529 and 1683 but was restored in the 19th century.Today, Liechtenstein Castle hosts guided tours, offering insights into its history and the Liechtenstein family. The castle's museum displays furniture, weaponry and the princely hat. The castle also serves as a venue for events, including the Nestroy Theatre Festival in the summer. From the castle, visitors can enjoy views of Vienna and the surrounding landscape.
