Discover more about Myralucke

Myralucke, a spring steeped in local legends, is the origin of the enchanting Myra Falls (Myrafälle) in Muggendorf, Lower Austria. Located at the base of the Unterberg mountain, the spring is believed to be fed by an underground lake, adding to its mystique. The name 'Myra' refers to the stream originating from this spring, a tributary of the Piesting river. For centuries, Myralucke has been more than just a water source; it has been a focal point of local folklore and a vital element in the region's industrial history. The Myra stream once powered numerous mills and sawmills in the Myra valley, grinding barley, wheat, and oats for the community. In 1885, the Austrian Tourist Club (ÖTK) developed a hiking trail through the Myra Falls ravine, transforming it into a popular tourist destination. The well-maintained trail includes 19 bridges and 8 ascents, allowing hikers to explore the waterfalls and surrounding natural beauty. Visitors can explore the history of the falls through 11 information boards along the landscape. The falls are open daily from 8 AM until nightfall, and are sometimes illuminated at night during summer. Hiking trails around Myralucke lead to the Unterberg mountain and Steinwandklamm gorge. After hiking, visitors can relax at cozy inns and restaurants like Myrastub'n, Karnerwirt, or Gasthaus Jagasitz.
