Discover more about Wien Museum Beethoven Pasqualatihaus

The Wien Museum Beethoven Pasqualatihaus, nestled in Vienna's Innere Stadt at Mölker Bastei 8, provides an intimate look into the life and creative process of Ludwig van Beethoven. This museum is located in the apartment where Beethoven resided intermittently between 1804 and 1815, a period during which he composed some of his most celebrated works, including the opera *Fidelio*, Symphonies 4, 5, 6 and 7, and the piano piece *Für Elise*. The building itself, known as Pasqualati House, dates back to 1797 and was constructed by Peter Mollner for Joseph Benedikt Freiherr von Pasqualati, physician to Empress Maria Theresa. Later, Johann Baptist Freiherr von Pasqualati, Joseph's son, became a patron of Beethoven and allowed him to live in the house. The museum comprises several rooms adjacent to Beethoven's former apartment and features portraits, original manuscripts, personal items, and listening stations where visitors can immerse themselves in Beethoven's music. While the rooms are not the exact ones Beethoven occupied, they offer a sense of the environment in which he lived and worked. The location on Mölker Bastei, part of Vienna's old city fortifications, provides a unique atmosphere, with cobblestone streets and a mix of Baroque and Biedermeier architecture. Note that the museum is on the fourth floor and is only accessible via stairs.
