Discover more about Kronprinzessin-Stefanie-Warte

The Kronprinzessin-Stefanie-Warte stands proudly on the Kahlenberg, offering unparalleled views of Vienna. This 22-meter-high tower was constructed in 1887 and named in honor of Crown Princess Stephanie of Belgium, wife of Crown Prince Rudolf. The Kahlenberg itself, reaching 484 meters, has been a popular destination for centuries, providing natural vantage points. The tower was commissioned by the Kahlenberg Railway Company to enhance tourism. Designed by Fellner & Helmer, the architectural firm behind many Austro-Hungarian Empire theaters, the tower features a simple rectangular stone structure. Originally, it had separate staircases for ascent and descent to manage crowds. Today, only one staircase is accessible. Over the years, the Stefaniewarte has been renovated, including a major restoration in the early 1990s that added a glass-covered staircase exit. The tower is cared for by the Döbling Nature Friends and is open to the public from May to October on weekends and holidays. From the top, visitors can see parts of Lower Austria and, on clear days, even the Schneeberg mountain range.
