Public Transport

From Ottakring U-Bahn station (U3 line), take bus 46B towards Johann-Staud-Straße. Get off at the 'Feuerwache am Steinhof' or 'Savoyenstraße' stop. From there, it's approximately a 20-minute walk uphill to Jubiläumswarte. Alternatively, bus 52B goes directly to Jubiläumswarte, but it runs infrequently. A single ticket for public transport within Vienna costs €2.40.
Walking

If you are already in the vicinity of Ottakring, you can walk to Jubiläumswarte. Follow Johann-Staud-Straße uphill. The walk is approximately 20-30 minutes from the base of the hill and offers scenic views along the way. Be prepared for a moderately steep incline. There are no costs associated with walking.

Perched atop the Gallitzinberg, in Vienna's 16th district, the Jubiläumswarte stands as a testament to the city's rich history and stunning natural surroundings. Rising 449 meters above sea level, this observation tower provides visitors with sweeping views of Vienna and the Vienna Woods. The original tower, a wooden structure, was erected in 1898 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Emperor Franz Joseph I's reign. However, a storm destroyed it shortly after its construction. Undeterred, an iron tower was purchased and rebuilt on the site in 1899. This tower was also eventually demolished in 1953 due to disrepair during World War II. The current Jubiläumswarte, a robust concrete structure, was inaugurated in 1956. To reach the top, visitors climb 183 steps via a spiral staircase. The viewing platform offers a 360-degree vista, encompassing the Hainburger Mountains and Leitha Mountains to the east, and the Kalkalpen with the Schneeberg to the south. On exceptionally clear days, the White Carpathians to the northeast are also visible. Not far from the tower, remnants of a World War II-era bunker serve as a reminder of the region's complex past. The nearby Vienna Forest School is dedicated to environmental education. The Wilhelminenberg, easily accessible by bus or car, offers another vantage point with stunning views of Vienna.
