Originally created as the private garden of Emperor Franz I in the early 19th century, it was designed by Ludwig Gabriel von Remy and court gardener Franz Antoine after Napoleon's troops destroyed the city's fortifications. The park was opened to the public in 1919, following the fall of the monarchy. The Burggarten offers a serene atmosphere with manicured lawns and various monuments.
