Countess Maria Katharina Strozzi, née Khevenhüller, commissioned the palace as a summer residence between 1699 and 1702. The original structure was a modest, one-story building, but the palace was expanded over the centuries by subsequent owners.The palace's architecture showcases a blend of Baroque and Neoclassical styles, reflecting different periods of construction and renovation. While the architect of the original building remains unknown, Johann Lucas von Hildebrandt may have been involved. Over time, the palace has served diverse functions, including a noble residence, a cholera hospital in 1831/1832, a school for female teachers (k. k. Zivilmädchenpensionat) from 1840 to 1919, and a financial office from 1940 to 2012. Since 2015, it has been home to the Institute for Advanced Studies.Although the interior is not generally open to the public, the exterior of Palais Strozzi offers a captivating glimpse into Viennese architectural history.
