Walking
Schillerplatz is located in the Innere Stadt and is easily accessible by foot from many central locations. From Karlsplatz, walk north along the Opernring, then turn left onto Nibelungengasse. Schillerplatz will be on your left. The walk is approximately 5 minutes. No costs involved.
Public Transport
Schillerplatz is well-served by Vienna's public transport system. Take the U1, U2, or U4 subway lines to Karlsplatz station. From there, it's a short walk to Schillerplatz. The square is named after Friedrich Schiller, a celebrated German poet, philosopher, historian, and playwright. Schillerplatz was created in 1878 as part of the urban development that followed the demolition of the city walls in the late 19th century.
