Founded in 1962, the museum is located in a former municipal building dating back to 1873. Run by dedicated volunteers, the Bezirksmuseum Penzing has grown into a vibrant cultural hub. The museum comprises twenty-five rooms on two floors, each dedicated to the former villages of Baumgarten, Breitensee, Hadersdorf-Weidlingau, Hütteldorf, and Penzing. Exhibits include a historic grocer's shop, a lumberjack's hut, and workshops of a musical instrument maker and a glove maker. There's also a living room from around 1900, a kitchen from the 1930s, and a nostalgic shopping street. The Bezirksmuseum Penzing also pays homage to famous residents like Otto Wagner, Gustav Klimt, Eduard Gurk, and Heinz Conrads. A large area is dedicated to the development of road and rail traffic in the 14th district. The museum also explores the natural landscape of the Wiental-Wienerwald, displaying the flora and fauna of the Vienna Woods. The museum boasts approximately 75,000 exhibits, including 9,500 photographs, 8,000 negatives, and 9,000 slides. The library comprises around 5,000 books.
