From the Hohenems town center, follow the signs directing you towards Burgruine Alt-Ems. The trailhead is located near the town center, and the hike to the castle is well-marked. The moderate hike takes approximately 40 minutes. Ensure you're wearing appropriate footwear and carry water.
Public Transport
Take a bus from various points in Bregenzerwald to Hohenems. Check local bus schedules for the 'Postbus' service. Disembark at the 'Hohenems Bahnhof' station. From there, you can take a short taxi ride to the base of the hiking trail leading to Burgruine Alt-Ems, costing approximately €10-€15. Alternatively, you can walk to the trailhead, which is about a 30-minute walk from the station. Then follow the walking directions.
Car
From Bregenz, follow the A14 motorway towards Hohenems. Once in Hohenems, follow signs to Burgruine Alt-Ems. You can park at the designated parking area near the entrance to the hiking trail leading up to the castle. Parking may incur a small fee. From the parking lot, the ascent can be started directly. Directly behind the parish church of St. Karl, you can park for free.
