Getting there

Walking

From the Dürnstein Parkplatz P2, walk towards the town center, passing the Unterloiben gate. Continue along the main street (Hauptstrasse), keeping the Danube River to your left. Look for marked hiking paths leading up to Dürnstein Castle. From the castle ruins, continue following signs for the Dürnsteiner Kanzel. The hike from the town center to the Kanzel takes approximately 30-45 minutes, with some steep and rocky sections. No costs are involved for this final approach.

Public Transport

If arriving by bus (Line 715 from Krems or Melk), disembark at the Dürnstein Parkplatz P2. From there, follow the walking directions into the town center and then to the hiking trails. A single bus fare within the Wachau region costs approximately €2-€11, depending on the distance. Consider purchasing a 'Wachau Day Ticket' for €12 if you plan to use the bus for further exploration of the valley. This ticket also covers the Dürnstein-Rossatz ferry.

Driving

Parking is available at the Dürnstein Parkplatz P2, located just outside the town walls. From the parking lot, it's a short walk into the town center and to the base of the Steinformationen. Parking fees are approximately €4 for 2 hours, with increasing rates for longer durations. Be aware that parking within the old town is restricted.
