Public Transport

From Innsbruck, take a train to Steinach am Brenner. From the Steinach am Brenner train station, take bus line 4145 to the GH Waldesruh bus stop in Obernberg. The bus ride takes approximately 22 minutes. From there, it's approximately a 30-40 minute walk to the Rodelbahn and Obernberger See. A single bus fare from Steinach am Brenner to Obernberg costs approximately €4-6.

Driving

From Innsbruck, take the A13 Brennerautobahn south towards Italy. Exit at Nösslach and follow the signs to Obernberg am Brenner. Continue through the village of Obernberg, following signs for Obernberger See. Drive to the end of the valley where you'll find a paid parking area (Parkplatz Waldesruh) near Gasthof Waldesruh. From the parking lot, it's approximately a 30-40 minute walk to the Rodelbahn and Obernberger See. Parking costs €3.5 for 3 hours, with each additional hour costing €0.50, up to a daily maximum of €7 (from 8:00 to 18:00).

Walking

From the Parkplatz Waldesruh, follow the signs towards Obernberger See. The path is well-marked and initially follows a farm track. You can choose between two routes: a path across the meadows (no shade) or a dirt road (some shade). Both routes lead to the lake and the Rodelbahn area. The walk takes approximately 30-40 minutes, depending on your pace and chosen route. Be aware that the final section of the path to the lake and toboggan run is uphill.

For a truly magical experience, visit in the evening when the run is illuminated until midnight.Beyond the toboggan run, the Obernberger See itself is a sight to behold. This mountain lake is surrounded by the majestic Tribulaun peaks and pristine larch forests. In winter, the lake often freezes over, creating a stunning winter wonderland. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake, taking in the breathtaking views and the peaceful atmosphere. The small chapel of “Maria am See,” located on a peninsula in the middle of the lake, adds a touch of charm and history to the landscape.
