The Lindwurmbrunnen depicts a large dragon, carved from a single block of greenstone (chloritic schist). According to legend, Klagenfurt was built on a swamp inhabited by a dragon, making the Lindwurm a fitting symbol for the city. The statue was created by Ulrich Vogelsang in 1590. In 1636, a figure of Hercules was added, symbolizing the overcoming of chaos and danger.
