Elisabethpark, a meticulously designed green space on the Elisabeth Promenade, offers visitors a tranquil retreat with breathtaking views of Lake Zell and the surrounding Alps. Named in honor of Empress Elisabeth of Austria, affectionately known as Sisi, the park pays homage to her legacy and the region's rich history. The park's location is significant, as it was once the site of the grand Hotel Elisabeth, a luxurious establishment that hosted numerous noblemen and noblewomen, including members of the Habsburg family. The hotel marked the beginning of tourism in Zell am See but was later replaced by the park due to railway expansions.As you enter Elisabethpark, you are immediately greeted by vibrant flowerbeds showcasing a kaleidoscope of colors that change with the seasons. Manicured gardens and towering trees create a serene atmosphere, inviting visitors to stroll along the winding paths and soak in the natural beauty. Benches are strategically placed throughout the park, offering ample opportunities to sit back, relax, and admire the stunning scenery. The crystal-clear waters of Lake Zell reflect the majestic peaks of the Alps, creating a picture-perfect backdrop for leisurely walks and quiet contemplation.One of the park's notable features is the Weyringer sculptures, created by the renowned sculptor Johann Weyringer. Elisabethpark is also famous for the Zeller Seezauber, a spectacular fountain and light show that takes place on the lake in front of the park. Walking
Elisabethpark is centrally located and easily accessible on foot from most locations in Zell am See's town center. From the Zell am See train station, walk east along Bahnhofstrasse, then turn left onto Seegasse. Continue onto Esplanade, which becomes Elisabeth Promenade. The park will be on your right, a pleasant 10-15 minute walk. No costs are associated with walking to the park.
Public Transport
If arriving by bus, the closest bus stop is 'Zell am See Hallenbad'. From there, walk south along the Elisabeth Promenade for about 5 minutes. The park will be on your left. A single bus fare within Zell am See costs approximately €2.50. Alternatively, take any of the local bus lines (660, 70, or 71) to the Zell am See Postplatz or Zell am See Bahnhof (train station) stop. From Postplatz, walk along Seegasse towards the lake, then turn right onto Esplanade. From the Bahnhof, follow the walking directions as described above. The Guest Mobility Ticket Salzburg, provided by accommodations in Zell am See-Kaprun, covers the cost of local bus and train transport.
Taxi/Ride-Share
A taxi or ride-share from the Zell am See train station to Elisabethpark will cost approximately €8-€15, depending on traffic and the time of day. The journey takes about 5-10 minutes. Simply ask to be dropped off at the Elisabeth Promenade near the Grand Hotel Zell am See. This is a convenient option for those with luggage or who prefer a direct route.
Driving
If driving, navigate to Elisabeth-Promenade 4, 5700 Zell am See. Limited short-term parking is available directly along the esplanade (Esplanade 16), with a maximum stay of 3 hours. Parking fees are approximately €1.50-€2.00 per hour. Alternatively, use the Parkhaus Zentrum (city center parking garage), a short walk from the esplanade; hourly rates are similar. Be aware that parking can be scarce during peak season.
