Getting There

Walking

From the Kaprun bus station, head east towards the main street (Kirchplatz). Walk straight for about 10 minutes. The museum is located at Kirchpl. 4, near the church. This is a pleasant walk with scenic views of the town.
Public Transport

Take a bus from Zell am See to Kaprun. Bus 660 runs from Zell am See Postplatz via the train station to Kaprun. Get off at the Kirchplatz bus stop, a short walk from the museum. Bus tickets can be purchased from the driver. A single fare from Zell am See to Kaprun is approximately €4-6.
Car

From anywhere in Kaprun, follow the B168 road and look for signs leading to Kirchplatz. The museum is located at Kirchpl. 4. There are a few public car parks (short-term parking zone with a parking disc, free of charge) located directly next to the museum. Alternatively, use the public car park at the Baumbar at the entrance to the village.

The Kaprun Museum, nestled in a historic, 400-year-old farmhouse (Steinerbauernhaus), offers a captivating glimpse into the region's past. The museum highlights the evolution of alpine farming, showcasing its importance to the local economy and culture. A significant portion of the museum is dedicated to Kaprun's development as a tourist attraction in the 19th and 20th centuries. Photographic displays tell the story of Kaprun's tourism pioneers, the first ski resorts, and the construction of the Glockner-Kaprun Power Plant and the Mooserboden reservoir. The construction of the power plant in 1955 symbolized Austria's rebirth after World War II. The museum also features exhibits on traditional Pinzgau costumes and a collection of historical cameras. The building itself, the Steinerbauernhaus, is a highlight, showcasing traditional log construction.
