Discover more about Steinbock.Welten

Steinbock.Welten, or Ibex Worlds, offers an immersive experience into the world of the Alpine ibex within the High Alps Nature Park Zillertal Alps. This isn't just a museum; it's a combination of a feeding station with a stable where ibexes can be observed, and a showroom featuring the permanent exhibition 'Steinbock.Welten im Zillergrund'. The exhibits detail the ibex's presence in the Zillertal region, dating back centuries, and recount their near extinction in the early 17th century due to conflicts between hunters and poachers. The exhibits cover the ibex's biology, distribution, and natural history, as well as its portrayal in literature, paintings, and historical accounts. Interactive elements include an ibex game and quiz. Thanks to conservation efforts, the Alpine ibex has been successfully reintroduced to the Nature Park. A small population now roams the high-altitude terrain. Visitors can observe real Alpine ibex in a specially designed enclosure that provides a safe and comfortable environment. Beyond the exhibits, Steinbock.Welten serves as a gateway to exploring the Zillergrund Valley, offering hiking trails with views of the surrounding mountains, glaciers, and alpine meadows. The attraction promotes sustainable mobility, encouraging visitors to use public transportation.
