Discover more about Tratzberg Castle

Tratzberg Castle, a striking Renaissance palace, is nestled on a steep ridge overlooking Jenbach in the Tyrol region of Austria. Originally mentioned in chronicles as early as 1296, the castle served as a border fortress against Bavaria. After a fire destroyed the original structure in 1490/91, Emperor Maximilian I passed the ruins to the Tänzl brothers, who rebuilt it in 1500. Throughout its history, Tratzberg Castle has been owned by several noble families, including the Ilsung, Fugger, and Enzenberg families. Each family left their mark on the castle, contributing to its unique blend of architectural styles and artistic treasures. Today, the castle is owned and inhabited by Count Ulrich Goëss-Enzenberg and his wife, Katrin Goëss-Enzenberg, who continue to restore and preserve this historical landmark. Visitors can explore the castle's lavishly furnished rooms, including the Hunting Hall with its hand-carved animal scenes, the Fuggerstube, and the grand ballroom adorned with the Habsburg family tree. A captivating audio tour, available in multiple languages, guides visitors through the castle's history and introduces them to the personalities who once resided within its walls. For a truly immersive experience, take the virtual reality tour to witness the castle's transformation over the centuries, including the devastating fire and its Renaissance reconstruction. Tratzberg Castle offers a fairy-tale experience for the whole family. Children will enjoy the special guided tours with knights, secret doors, and Sleeping Beauty, while adults will appreciate the castle's rich history and stunning architecture.
