Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From Mayrhofen, take bus line 8328 towards Zillergrund. The bus departs from Mayrhofen Postamt and travels to Zillergrund Fürstein. From July 12th to September 26th, 2025, check the updated schedule for bus line 8328. The ride takes approximately 9 minutes. A single fare costs between €2-€4. Consider purchasing the Zillertal Activcard for access to public transport.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available in Mayrhofen. A taxi ride from Mayrhofen to Zillergrund costs approximately €20-€25 and takes about 9 minutes. Taxi Kröll and Taxi Sandhofer are local taxi services. You can book a taxi online or by phone.

  • Walking

    From the Maurach parking lot, after the Brandberg Tunnel, a toll road leads to Bärenbad. From Bärenbad, you can walk to the head of the dam. Alternatively, you can hike from Mayrhofen to Brandberg, a distance of 5.1 km that takes approximately 1 hour and 1 minute.

Steinbock.Welten, or Ibex Worlds, is located in the Zillergrund Valley within the High Alps Nature Park Zillertal Alps. This attraction is dedicated to the Alpine ibex, an animal with a dramatic history in the Zillertal region.Up until the 17th century, hundreds of ibexes roamed the Ziller, Stillup, Floiten and Zemm valleys. However, conflicts between hunters and poachers led to the near extinction of the ibex. The Prince-Bishop of Salzburg ordered their extermination to prevent further bloodshed.Thanks to conservation efforts, the Alpine ibex has been successfully reintroduced to the Nature Park. At Steinbock.Welten, visitors can learn about these reintroduction programs and the ongoing efforts to protect the ibex and its habitat. The attraction features informative displays detailing the ibex's biology, behavior, and ecological role. Interactive exhibits cater to all ages.One of the highlights is the opportunity to observe real Alpine ibex in a specially designed enclosure.
