Chirag Gala, meaning 'Lamp Fortress' in Azerbaijani, is a captivating historical site located north of Baku in the Guba region of Azerbaijan. This ruined fortress, dating back to the 5th century, was constructed by the Sassanid Persians as a strategic defense against invasions from the north. Situated on a mountain peak at an altitude of 1,230 meters, Chirag Gala was a key component of the Gilgilchay defensive wall, which also included the fortresses of Baku and Derbent. As its name suggests, Chirag Gala functioned as a vital communication tower.
