Mingachevir History Museum: A Chronicle of the City of Lights

The Mingachevir History Museum, founded in 1968, stands as a repository of the city's vibrant past, displaying over 14,000 exhibits that narrate Mingachevir's story from antiquity to the present day. The museum's collection is largely the result of extensive archaeological excavations that began in the mid-20th century, revealing traces of human habitation dating back to the eneolithic era (3000 BC) through the 17th century AD.The exhibits feature a diverse array of artifacts, including ancient pottery, intricate jewelry, weaponry, and everyday tools, offering insights into the lives, customs, beliefs and technological advancements of the people who inhabited the region. A highlight is the collection of artifacts from the ancient Silk Road, which once passed through Mingachevir, highlighting the city's importance as a trading hub and a melting pot of cultures.The museum also chronicles Mingachevir's transformation into a modern industrial center, with exhibits detailing the construction of the hydroelectric power station, a pivotal project in Azerbaijan's economic development, and the contributions of German prisoners of war who helped build it. The museum has two branches – Martyrs' Memorial and Independence Museum.
