Al Areen Wildlife Park, established in 1976, stands as a pioneering conservation initiative in Bahrain and the broader Middle East. The park spans over 8 square kilometers and is dedicated to preserving endangered Arabian animal species and plants. It serves as both a nature reserve and a zoo, offering a unique blend of conservation and recreation. The park is divided into two main sections: a public park and a protected reserve. The reserve is dedicated to the breeding and protection of rare Arabian animals and plants, accessible only to specialists and researchers. The public park welcomes visitors to explore the diverse flora and fauna of the region. As you enter Al Areen, you're greeted by a landscape that defies the typical desert environment with lush greenery, meticulously maintained gardens, and sparkling water features. The park is home to over 100,000 plants and trees, representing both native and exotic species. The animal collection at Al Areen is equally impressive, with over 45 species of mammals, 82 species of birds, and 25 species of flora. Among the most iconic residents is the Arabian oryx, which was once on the brink of extinction. Other notable mammals include the Persian gazelle, springbok, impala, fallow deer, Chapman's zebra, and desert hare. The birdlife is equally diverse, with flamingos, herons and other bird species. Visitors can explore the park on foot, by bike or on a guided bus tour. The bus tours provide insights into the animals' origins, behaviors, and conservation status.
