Bab Al Bahrain, or 'Gateway to Bahrain', is an iconic landmark located in the heart of Manama. Constructed in 1949 by Sir Charles Belgrave, it originally served as the main entrance to the Manama Souq and housed government administrative offices. The building's location once stood on the Manama coastline; however, due to land reclamation, it is now several kilometers inland.In 1986, Bab Al Bahrain was refurbished to incorporate Islamic architectural features. Today, the monument consists of a large archway, serving as the entrance to the Manama Souq, with pedestrian walkways on either side. The ground floor houses a tourist information office and a handicrafts shop.The Manama Souq, located behind Bab Al Bahrain, offers a traditional shopping experience with a variety of goods, including textiles, spices, perfumes, and souvenirs. The area surrounding the gate has been transformed into a pedestrian-friendly plaza, with the Bab Al Bahrain Mall blending traditional Bahraini architecture with contemporary design. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Bahrain National Museum and Al Fateh Grand Mosque. Bab Al Bahrain is expected to serve as an interchange station for the Bahrain Metro, which is expected to be fully operational by 2030.

Walking
From a central Manama location, such as the Bahrain City Centre Mall, Bab Al Bahrain is approximately a 20-30 minute walk. Head east towards Government Avenue. Note the Bahrain Financial Harbour as a landmark to the north, and the Central Post Office on the opposite side of Government Avenue.
Public Transport
Several bus lines stop near Bab Al Bahrain, including routes 12, 19, A1, X2, and 41. Check the Bahrain Public Transport Company (BPTC) website or app for the most up-to-date schedules and routes. Alight at the 'Bab Albahrain' or 'Government Avenue-1/Bab Al Bahrain' stop, both a 1-minute walk from the entrance. A single bus fare is approximately 0.30 BHD, payable to the driver. Purchasing a 'Go Card' for 0.50 BHD allows for cheaper fares (0.25 BHD per journey).
