The building's location once stood on the Manama coastline; however, due to land reclamation, it is now several kilometers inland.In 1986, Bab Al Bahrain was refurbished to incorporate Islamic architectural features. Today, the monument consists of a large archway, serving as the entrance to the Manama Souq, with pedestrian walkways on either side. The ground floor houses a tourist information office and a handicrafts shop.The Manama Souq, located behind Bab Al Bahrain, offers a traditional shopping experience with a variety of goods, including textiles, spices, perfumes, and souvenirs. The area surrounding the gate has been transformed into a pedestrian-friendly plaza, with the Bab Al Bahrain Mall blending traditional Bahraini architecture with contemporary design. Visitors can also explore nearby attractions such as the Bahrain National Museum and Al Fateh Grand Mosque. Bab Al Bahrain is expected to serve as an interchange station for the Bahrain Metro, which is expected to be fully operational by 2030.
