Bandarban Golden Temple, officially known as Buddha Dhatu Jadi, is a stunning Buddhist temple located in the Balaghata area, approximately 10 kilometers from Bandarban city. The temple is perched on top of a 60-meter high hill, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. While often called the Golden Temple, it is not made of gold, but its golden color and intricate Arakanese architecture give it a mesmerizing appearance. The temple was founded by U Pannya Jota Mahathera in 1995 and completed in 2000. U Pannya Jota Mahathera, born into the Royal Bohmong family, served as a judge before becoming a Theravada monk. The temple houses a relic of Buddha, gifted by the State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee of Myanmar. Inside the temple complex, visitors can find a serene atmosphere, various prayer halls, statues of Buddha in different postures, and a bell tower. The main shrine houses the second-largest Buddha statue in Bangladesh. Visitors are expected to dress modestly and remove their shoes before entering the temple. Silence is encouraged to maintain the peaceful environment. Photography is generally permitted, but visitors should be respectful of religious ceremonies. The temple is open to visitors from 7:30 AM to 6:30 PM. A small entrance fee of 20 BDT is charged. The best time to visit is during the Buddha Purnima festival (late January to early February) when the temple is illuminated with thousands of lamps.
