Head south from BARD, following the main road towards Kalirbazar. Rupban Mura is located on a hillock to the left, clearly visible from the road. There are no specific entrance fees to reach the walking path.

Rupban Mura, situated in Cumilla Adarsha, near Kotbari, is an archaeological treasure that unveils the Buddhist heritage of ancient Bengal. Dating back to the 6th to 11th centuries CE, during the Chandra and Deva dynasties, this site was a pivotal center for Buddhist learning and practice. The architectural remnants reveal a sophisticated civilization that once flourished in this region.Excavations at Rupban Mura have uncovered a remarkable semi-cruciform shrine, a monastery, and an octagonal votive stupa. The cruciform shrine, originally a solid stupa on a square base, was transformed in the 8th century AD. The monastery, built in a square plan, initially had 24 cells, later reduced to 18. Discoveries include terracotta plaques from the Jataka tales, Gupta imitation gold coins, silver coins, and a sandstone Buddha image.Today, Rupban Mura attracts visitors worldwide with its historical significance and architectural beauty. The site provides a glimpse into Bangladesh's cultural heritage and stands as a testament to the region's historical importance. Scholars and students visit to study ancient Bengal's art, religion, and history.
