Panthumai Waterfall: Sylhet's Border Paradise

Panthumai Waterfall, locally known as Fatachari Jharna or Borahil Jharna, graces the border of Bangladesh and India, near Panthumai village in Sylhet. Though the waterfall is within Indian territory, its beauty is readily enjoyed from Bangladesh, making it a popular destination. The waterfall originates in the Meghalaya hills, known for lush landscapes and heavy rainfall. The water powerfully cascades down rocky cliffs, creating a misty ambiance and soothing roar. The view of the water against the green hills is breathtaking. Panthumai village, in West Jaflong Union, adds to the location's charm and is considered one of Bangladesh's most beautiful villages, known for its peaceful environment and welcoming locals. The Piyain River flows by the village and waterfall, inviting boat rides on its clear waters for a closer experience. Boat rides are a common activity, allowing tourists to approach the waterfall's base and feel the refreshing spray. Local boatmen offer transportation and insights into the area's history and natural features. The best time to visit Panthumai Waterfall is during the monsoon season, from June to September. During these months, the waterfall is at its peak, with a greater volume of water. However, exercise caution during heavy rainfall due to increased water levels.
