Shaheed A.H.M. Kamaruzzaman Central Park & Zoo is a beloved recreational space in Rajshahi, Bangladesh, offering a green escape from the urban environment. Originally, the area was a horse racecourse during British colonial rule. After the British left, local leader Abul Hasnat Muhammad Qamaruzzaman initiated its transformation into a public park, which opened in 1972. In 1983, a zoo was added, enhancing its appeal as both a recreational and educational destination. The park is named in honor of A.H.M. Qamaruzzaman, a prominent national figure. The park boasts a wide variety of trees and plants, including eucalyptus, mango, and jackfruit. Seasonal flower beds and a butterfly garden add vibrant color. The zoo is home to Bengal tigers, spotted deer, crocodiles, monkeys, pythons, peacocks, parakeets and other species of birds. A central lake offers paddle boats, and an artificial hill provides scenic views. Other attractions include artistic sculptures, a designed bridge, an amphitheater, picnic spots, and a Ferris wheel. The park is open daily from 8 am to 6 pm. It's a popular spot for families, students, and tourists seeking leisure and recreation.
