Chera Dwip, meaning 'separated island,' is the ultimate frontier of Bangladesh, located about 5 kilometers south of St. Martin's Island. This uninhabited island is an extension of St. Martin's, the only coral island in Bangladesh. The island is characterized by a landscape rich in alluvial sands and mollusk shells, with an elevation of approximately 3.6 meters above sea level. Chera Dwip is renowned for its diverse coral formations, both living and fossilized, shaped by the Bay of Bengal. The island is mostly uninhabited, with a small bush as its only green feature, adding to its unspoiled charm. The absence of human habitation makes it a sanctuary for migratory birds, especially during winter. Visitors can explore the coral formations, relax on the beaches, and swim in the clear waters. Snorkeling is a popular activity, offering a glimpse into the vibrant marine life around the coral reefs. The island is part of the St. Martin's Island Marine Protected Area, aiming to conserve its rich biodiversity. However, it faces environmental challenges, so responsible tourism is essential.
