Discover more about Jamtola Beach

Jamtola Beach, a hidden gem in the southeastern corner of the Sundarbans, approximately 90 kilometers from Mongla port, presents a unique and tranquil experience for travelers seeking respite from the clamor of urban life. The beach's most striking feature is its glistening black sand, a result of the rich mineral content carried by the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers. Unlike popular beaches, Jamtola's allure lies in its untouched, wild character, where the rhythmic lapping of waves harmonizes with the rustling of mangrove leaves. The beach is named for the abundance of jujube trees (locally known as 'jam') that thrive in the area, adding unique flora to the coastal landscape. The journey to Jamtola itself is an adventure, typically involving a boat trip through the intricate network of rivers and canals that crisscross the Sundarbans. As you venture deeper into the Sundarbans, you'll encounter not only the stunning beauty of the mangrove ecosystem but also the challenges it faces. The forest is under threat from both natural and human-made causes, including rising sea levels, erosion, and deforestation. Visitors can spot deer, monkeys, various bird species, and even tiger footprints. Birdwatchers will be delighted by the variety of avian species that inhabit the area, including kingfishers, eagles, and migratory birds. The breathtaking view of the sun setting in the evening sky creating a wonderful beauty can be seen here.
