Discover more about Madhabkunda Waterfall

Madhabkunda Waterfall, located in the Barlekha Upazila of Moulvibazar District, is one of the most visited and largest waterfalls in Bangladesh. The waterfall is approximately 200 feet (61 meters) high and draws tourists with its scenic beauty and serene environment. The name "Madhabkunda" has origins in local legends, with one suggesting that a Hindu sage named Madhab meditated near the site. Another legend suggests the name originates from "Madhav", a name of Shiva, as it is believed Shiva appeared at this location. The area holds cultural and spiritual significance for local communities, with a nearby temple where Hindu rituals are performed annually. The Madhabkunda Eco Park, established in 2001, surrounds the waterfall and spans 267 hectors. The park aims to conserve the waterfall and the surrounding biodiversity. Visitors can explore tea gardens, citrus and betel nut plantations, and potentially encounter the Khasi community who reside in the forest villages. The Gangamara stream forms the Madhabkunda Waterfall as it cascades down the rocky Patharia Hill. The water flows westward into the Hakaluki Haor. While the main stream flows year-round, the monsoon season brings a second stream that merges with the first, creating a powerful cascade and substantial pool. Visitors can also explore the nearby Parikunda Waterfall, a short 10-15 minute walk from Madhabkunda.
