Discover more about Harrison's Point Light House

Harrison's Point Lighthouse, located in the parish of St. Lucy, stands as a reminder of Barbados' maritime history. Completed in 1925, it was the last of four lighthouses built on the island. The 85-foot cylindrical concrete tower, with its white exterior and faded red lantern, guided ships away from the island's treacherous northern coast until 2006. Decommissioned due to modern GPS technology, the lighthouse now draws visitors seeking a unique blend of history and natural beauty. While the structure is derelict, explorers can wander the grounds and climb the spiral staircase to the top, where they are rewarded with breathtaking 360-degree views. The rugged coastline, the Atlantic Ocean, and the inland sugarcane fields create a picturesque backdrop. Visitors should exercise caution, as the lighthouse is in a state of disrepair. The site is generally accessible and free to explore, offering a tranquil escape and a connection to Barbados' rich maritime traditions. The area surrounding Harrison's Point Lighthouse has a rich history, having once hosted a U.S. naval facility during the Cold War and later serving as a temporary prison.
