Discover more about Earthworks Pottery

Earthworks Pottery is more than just a place to buy ceramics; it's an immersive experience that showcases the heart and soul of Barbadian craftsmanship. Founded in 1983 by Goldie Spieler, and now run by her son David, this family-owned and operated studio has become a cornerstone of the island's craft scene. Located in the tranquil hills of St. Thomas, away from the bustling city center, Earthworks offers a refreshing escape into a world of creativity and artistry. As you approach Earthworks, you're immediately struck by the vibrant atmosphere. The studio and pottery, located on a breezy hillside, boasts beautiful mosaic-tiled walls, a demonstration perhaps of the endless creativity to be found within. Inside the open workshop, visitors can observe the entire pottery-making process, from the initial shaping of the red clay to the intricate hand-painted designs and the final firing in the kiln. The potters at Earthworks are true artisans, each with their own unique style and expertise. They skillfully transform raw clay into a wide array of functional and decorative pieces, including dinnerware, serving dishes, vases, lamps, and decorative accessories. The designs are inspired by the vibrant colors and patterns of the Caribbean, featuring bold blues, greens, and yellows that evoke the island's lush landscapes and sparkling waters. Earthworks also does custom orders such as house names or house-numbers, bathroom sinks, splash tiles, accents or floor tiles, commemorative dinner sets, wedding presents and anything you can imagine. Earthworks is committed to quality and functionality. All of the pottery is made from durable stoneware clay and fired at high temperatures, making it food-safe, dishwasher-safe, and microwave-safe. The complex also houses On the Wall Art Gallery, which showcases the work of talented Barbadian artists and craftspeople. To complete your visit, be sure to stop by the Tree Top Café, located on a shaded verandah with stunning views of the St. George valley. The café serves a delicious menu of Bajan-inspired dishes, including salads, sandwiches, quiches, and homemade desserts. Earthworks also offers pottery classes for those who want to try their hand at the craft.
