The church stands on what is known as 'God's Acre', the oldest consecrated land in Barbados.The original wooden structure, built in 1628, was eventually replaced by a stone building in the early 1690s after a devastating hurricane in 1675. The church was consecrated by Bishop Mitchinson on Easter Tuesday, 1875.Inside, visitors can admire the beautiful stained glass windows that depict biblical scenes and allow colorful light to filter into the serene interior. The church also houses a collection of marble wall sculptures and a baptismal font dating back to 1684. One of its most prized possessions is the historic bell, dating back to 1696, which predates the American Liberty Bell.
