Golden Square Freedom Park: A Tribute to Barbados's Heritage

Golden Square Freedom Park, inaugurated in November 2021, marks Barbados's transition to a republic and stands as a powerful symbol of the island's history and culture. Today, the park serves as a place of reflection and education, honoring Payne's legacy and the sacrifices made in the pursuit of social justice.The park features the Builders of Barbados Wall, showcasing surnames of individuals who contributed to the island's development. The 1937 Memorial Wall commemorates lives lost during the labor riots, incorporating everyday items from the 1930s. Visitors can also find road tennis courts, as the sport originated in Barbados, and admire art installations by local artists.
