Mallalieu Motor Collection: A Nostalgic Journey Through Barbados' Automotive History

Step back in time at the Mallalieu Motor Collection, a hidden gem nestled in Bridgetown, Christ Church. This private museum, the only one of its kind in Barbados, is the result of Bill Mallalieu’s lifelong passion for automobiles and his dedication to preserving the legacy of motoring on the island.The collection is housed within a historic red brick building at Pavilion Court, a site that adds to the museum's charm and character. Inside, visitors are greeted by a meticulously curated display of vintage and classic cars, each with its own unique story to tell. Among the prized possessions is a rare 1947 Bentley Drophead Coupe, originally made for Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands and raced in the 1949 Monte Carlo Rally. Another notable Bentley is the 'A Mallalieu,' hand-built by Durham 'Derry' Mallalieu using a MK6 Bentley chassis. A 1953 Daimler Roadster also holds a special place in the collection, one of only 54 ever built.The walls of the garage are covered with photographs of the island's first bus, police car, and taxi, alongside interesting pieces of information. Bill Mallalieu's passion is obvious as he shares his knowledge and expertise, making each visit a truly engaging and informative experience.
