Discover more about Animal Flower Cave & Restaurant

The Animal Flower Cave, nestled beneath the cliffs of North Point in St. Lucy, Barbados, is the island's only accessible sea cave and a captivating natural attraction. Discovered in 1780, the cave gets its name from the sea anemones, locally known as 'animal flowers,' that reside in its pools. These fascinating creatures retract into their stalks when threatened, offering a unique spectacle. Descend into the cave via coral steps built in 1912 and explore its stunning interior. The cave's floor, estimated to be 400,000 to 500,000 years old, was formed by constant sea erosion over millennia. Admire the green and brown formations on the cave walls, created by the oxidation of copper and iron, resembling shapes like lizards and turtles. The cave features natural openings that provide breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. On calm days, visitors can swim in the natural rock pools within the cave. During strong storms, the entrance acts as a blowhole, creating a dramatic display. Above the cave, the Animal Flower Cave Restaurant offers delicious Caribbean cuisine with stunning cliffside views. The restaurant is known for its breadfruit tacos and refreshing drinks. There are also craft stalls, a children's playground, and lookout points for whale and bird watching.
