The Flower Forest Botanical Gardens, located in the lush hills of St. Joseph, Barbados, offers a tranquil escape into a world of natural beauty. In 1983, under the leadership of Don Hill and with the expertise of Richard Coghlan from Kew Gardens, the vision of a botanical garden began to take shape. A group of garden enthusiasts invested their ideas and funds, and the Flower Forest officially opened its doors in December 1983. Visitors can explore the gardens via winding paths that meander through vibrant blooms, towering palms, and serene ponds. The pavilion incorporates the old boiling house, preserving its giant copper boilers, and the old bamboo patch out back. Further improvements have been made over the years, including a complete rejuvenation of the garden and facilities in 2009, the addition of a new deck in 2015 offering spectacular views, and renovations to the kitchen and the addition of handicap-accessible facilities in 2017. The Forest Café, located on-site, serves traditional Barbadian dishes, giving visitors a taste of the island. Local rums are also sold, and meals suitable for children are available. The in-house gift shop offers locally made crafts and gourmet foods like jams and sauces. The Flower Forest is also a popular venue for weddings and special events.
