Kensington Oval, situated on the western edge of Bridgetown, Barbados, is more than just a cricket ground; it's a historic landmark and the heart of West Indies cricket. Established in 1882 when the Pickwick Cricket Club leased the land, it has evolved from a simple playing field into a world-class stadium. The first international match was held here in 1895. Kensington Oval has a rich history, having hosted numerous significant cricket encounters involving local, regional, and international teams. In January 1930, it hosted its first Test match, with the West Indies and England playing to a draw. The stadium was completely reconstructed in 2005-2006 for the 2007 Cricket World Cup. The Oval hosted the final of the 2007 Cricket World Cup between Australia and Sri Lanka. A statue of Sir Garfield Sobers, a Barbadian national hero and widely regarded as the greatest cricketer of all time, stands at the entrance.
