Christ Church Parish Church stands as a symbol of enduring faith and community spirit. The original wooden church was erected around 1629 near Dover Beach. In 1669, a devastating flood swept it away, scattering coffins and bones from the churchyard. Undeterred, a second church was built on the present site, only to be destroyed by the Great Hurricane of 1780. A third church followed in 1786, meeting its end in the hurricane of 1831. The fourth church, constructed in 1835, was destroyed by fire in 1935. The current church incorporates three walls and the western tower from the fourth structure. The churchyard is known for the intriguing Chase Vault, where coffins were said to move mysteriously. This phenomenon, investigated in 1820, remains unexplained. Today, the coffins are buried separately, and the vault stands vacant. Visitors can explore the church and its grounds, reflecting on the history etched into its stones. The church offers a serene escape and a glimpse into Barbados's colonial past and the community's resilience in the face of adversity.
