Discover more about Flower Forest Botanical Gardens

Nestled in the heart of Barbados, approximately 850 feet above sea level, lies the enchanting Flower Forest Botanical Gardens. This 53-acre horticultural park offers a serene escape into a world of vibrant colors, fragrant blossoms, and panoramic vistas. Far removed from the island's famed beaches, the Flower Forest presents a different facet of Barbados's beauty, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in its lush, green embrace. Originally part of the Richmond Plantation, a sugarcane estate, the land struggled to thrive as a sugar producer. However, its fertile soil and stunning landscape proved ideal for a new purpose. In 1983, under the guidance of Don Hill and with the expertise of Richard Coghlan from Kew Gardens, the area was transformed into the Flower Forest, opening its doors to the public in December of that year. This transformation marked the beginning of a new chapter in the land's history, shifting from agricultural production to botanical conservation and tourism. The gardens are a carefully curated blend of natural beauty and imaginative landscaping. Towering Caribbean Royal Palms provide a majestic canopy, beneath which a diverse collection of tropical flowers flourishes. Heliconias, ginger lilies, bromeliads, and anthurium lilies create a vibrant tapestry of color, attracting hummingbirds and other native wildlife. Meandering pathways invite exploration, leading visitors through a variety of landscapes, from open lawns to secluded, semi-jungle environments. The on-site Forest Café serves traditional Barbadian dishes, offering a taste of local flavors. Sample refreshing beverages and light snacks while enjoying the panoramic views from the terrace. The gift shop features locally made crafts and artwork, providing a chance to take home a unique souvenir of your visit. The Flower Forest is also a popular venue for weddings and other special events. The lush surroundings and breathtaking views create a romantic and unforgettable setting for celebrations.
