This private museum, the only one of its kind in Barbados, is the result of Bill Mallalieu’s lifelong passion for automobiles and his dedication to preserving the legacy of motoring on the island.The collection is housed within a historic red brick building at Pavilion Court, a site that adds to the museum’s charm and character. Stepping inside is like stepping back in time, as visitors are greeted by a meticulously curated display of vintage and classic cars, each with its own unique story to tell. The atmosphere is intimate and personal, reflecting the owner's deep connection to each vehicle.Among the prized possessions in the Mallalieu Motor Collection is a rare 1947 Bentley Drophead Coupe, originally made for Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands and raced in the 1949 Monte Carlo Rally. Another notable Bentley in the collection is the 'A Mallalieu,' hand-built by Durham 'Derry' Mallalieu using a MK6 Bentley chassis. Derry Mallalieu crafted only 34 of these sports cars, making this particular model a true collector's item. A 1953 Daimler Roadster also holds a special place in the collection, one of only 54 ever built, with approximately 35 still in existence today.Beyond the prestigious Bentleys and Daimlers, the collection features a diverse array of vehicles that showcase the evolution of motoring in Barbados. Bill Mallalieu's personal favorite, a 1963 Volvo 122S, holds a special place in his heart as his record-breaking rally car, with many of his records from 50 years ago remaining unbroken to this day. Mallalieu was a founder member of the Barbados Rally Club, and his dedication to the sport is woven into the fabric of the museum. The walls of the garage are covered with photographs of the island's first bus, police car, and taxi, alongside interesting pieces of information.
