Discover more about Ragged Point

Ragged Point, situated in the parish of St. Philip on the southeastern coast of Barbados, is a captivating destination celebrated for its dramatic cliffs, stunning ocean vistas, and the historic East Point Lighthouse. This scenic locale provides a unique fusion of natural splendor and serene tranquility, making it a must-see for those seeking respite from the island's more frequented tourist spots. The name 'Ragged Point' aptly describes this area, with its rugged coastline and jagged cliffs descending into the Atlantic Ocean. The views from the clifftops are simply breathtaking, stretching along almost the entire east coast of Barbados. On a clear day, you can even see as far north as Cove Bay and Pico Tenerife. The constant crashing of waves against the rocks creates a soothing soundtrack, perfect for reflection and relaxation. Dominating the landscape is the East Point Lighthouse, an 85-foot coral stone structure erected in 1875. This historic landmark served as a vital beacon for ships navigating the treacherous Cobbler's Reef, a notorious graveyard for vessels in the 19th century. While the lighthouse itself is not always open to the public, it remains an iconic symbol of Ragged Point and a reminder of the island's rich maritime heritage. The Barbados Port Inc. is supporting the restoration of the lighthouse, to maintain it as one of Barbados' premier tourist attractions. Visitors can enjoy leisurely walks along the clifftop trails, taking in the invigorating sea breezes and panoramic vistas. The area is also ideal for picnics, with several vantage points offering stunning views. Swimming is not recommended at Ragged Point due to the strong currents and rocky coastline. However, several more sheltered beaches and bays are located nearby, including Bottom Bay, Cave Bay, Long Bay and Foul Bay.
