Walking
If you are starting from the Aalst train station, exit the station and head towards the main square (Grote Markt). From the square, take the main street (Kerkstraat) and walk straight for about 10 minutes until you reach the bus station (Station Aalst). There, catch bus number 150 towards Leuven. After approximately 25 minutes, you will arrive at Leuven bus station. From the bus station, exit and walk straight for about 5 minutes until you reach Rector de Somerplein. The Fonske statue will be in front of you.
Public Transport (Train)
From the Aalst train station, purchase a ticket to Leuven. Take a direct train to Leuven, which departs frequently (approximately every 30 minutes). The journey will take around 15 minutes. Upon arrival at Leuven station, exit the station and head towards Rector de Somerplein. It’s about a 15-minute walk: exit the station, turn left onto Diestsevest, and then continue straight until you reach the square where the Fonske statue is located.
Cycling
If you prefer cycling, you can rent a bike from various locations in Aalst. From the center of Aalst, head southwest towards the canal and follow the bike path that leads to Leuven. The cycling route is scenic and takes approximately 30-40 minutes. Once you arrive in Leuven, head towards Rector de Somerplein, where you will find the Fonske statue.
