The construction of the Brugsesteenweg in 1723 facilitated access for visitors from Bruges. The arrival of English tourism in the 19th century spurred the construction of bathing cabins and hotels.Today, Blankenberge Beach offers a variety of amenities and attractions. The Zeedijk promenade runs parallel to the beach, lined with restaurants, cafes, and shops. The Blankenberge Pier, a 350-meter Art Deco structure, extends into the North Sea, offering panoramic views and unique attractions. Walking
From the Blankenberge train station, head west towards the sea. Walk along Koning Leopold III Plein and continue onto Kerkstraat. The beach and promenade will be straight ahead, approximately a 5-minute walk. No costs involved.
Public Transport
The coastal tram (Kusttram) stops at Blankenberge Markt, a short walk from the beach. From the Blankenberge train station, take the Kusttram towards Knokke-Heist or De Panne and get off at Blankenberge Markt. The beach is a few minutes' walk from the tram stop. A single fare for a short trip is approximately €2.50.
Taxi
Taxis are available at the Blankenberge train station. A taxi ride to the beach from the station is a short trip, costing approximately €14.40. Taxi and ride-hailing apps are also available.
Parking
If driving, be aware that parking in Blankenberge can be challenging, especially during peak season. Paid parking is available in the red zone (€2.50/hour) and orange zone (€7.50/day). Free parking is possible in streets where no pay or blue zone applies. Several private car parks are also available, such as Centre car park (Kerkstraat 122).
